If you have a very wide mirror, and sconces don't make sense you can always opt for lighting above the mirror - it serves a similar purpose.

While ambient lighting isn't necessary in your bathroom, it can really provide some worthwhile light. A central fixture mounted to the ceiling can add a soft glow to the perimeter of the room.
