Avoid flushing things like cotton swabs, gauze, tampons, maxi pads, diapers, paper towels and other material that cannot break down easily. Also, “flushable” wipes will not really degrade enough to be flushed down the toilet. Other materials that can cause problems include grease, paint and chemicals, including drain cleaning products.
