When to Call an Electrician – 5 Signs You Should Do It

Many of the electrical problems homeowners experience are seen as just a nuisance, something that can be put off until tomorrow. If you have early warning signals that there is a problems, don’t put off calling an electrician. Many electrical fires and electric shocks are caused by neglected electrical systems where homeowners simply ignored the warning signs.

Here are some of the warning signs you should never ignore.

Circuit Breaker That Keeps Tripping

This is a classic symptom that the electrical system is overloaded or there is a problem with the home’s wiring. There could also be a defective device plugged into the system.

Dimming Lights

If the lights in the house going dim, first check that light bulbs are firmly screwed in. If they are, it could be an warning sign that the wiring is faulty or that the circuit is overloaded.

Flickering Lights

Flickering lights are often caused by damaged wiring, overloaded circuit or a malfunctioning fixture or appliance.

Buzzing Switches or Outlets

If electrical outlets or switches make a buzzing noise, it could mean that there is a problem with loose wiring or the service panel.

Hot Electrical Outlet or Switch Plate Covers

It’s normal for dimmer switches to feel warm to the touch when in use, however if other outlets and switches feel hot to the touch it indicates there is an electrical wiring problem that should be checked by a licensed electrician as soon as possible.
