When and Why You Should Have a Home Electrical Inspection

Posted April 7, 2016

Why should you have a home electrical inspection? First, an inspection will ensure that all electrical components and wiring meet the National Electric Code (NEC) and local ordinances. These legal and safety standards are designed to ensure your home meets the minimum standards. Second, your electrician can provide additional recommendations for improvements and upgrades beyond the electrical code's minimum standards.

There are four times when a home should undergo an electrical inspection. They are:

1. When the home is being sold.

2. If the home is 40 years or older.

3. When a major electrical appliance such as a hot tub or additional heating or cooling equipment are being installed.

4. When adding a new addition or renovating a home requiring additional breakers, outlets, switches and lighting.

When you have ABC Plumbing, Sewer, Heating, Cooling and Electric perform an electrical inspection for your home you will be provide with a detailed report on all areas of the home that may need attention. This includes a checklist for proper grounding, verification that AFCIs are working properly, and inspection of switches, outlets, wiring, and the electrical panel.
